 PROLOGUE  : 23 JUILLET 2008

The Suzuki Prologue, the traditional warm up event to the start of La Solitaire du Figaro takes place today in La Rochellle.

49 competitors will cover the 17-mile course set on the Perthuis, between the Minimes Point and Boyard Fort with the finishing line opposite the l’île d’Aix.

With an 11 am start and due to the tides, the boats will leave the harbour in La Rochelle from as early as 06:50 and are expected to return from 18:45. It is a superstition among the Figaro sailors that to win the Suzuki Prologue brings bad luck and leads to not winning the actual Solitaire itself; a superstition that Frederic Duthil paid little heed to last year. Duthil not only won the warm up race, he went on to win two of the four legs of the race. 49 of the fifty competitors take part, the exception being Jean-Philippe Le Meitour (La Voix de l'Enfant) who remains in le Bassin des Chalutiers to try and fix his engine problems.

La Solitaire du Figaro will start from La Rochelle on Friday at 13:00.
